The Archive

The Gordon Russell Design Museum preserves a unique and extensive archive of designs from Gordon Russell and his company, Gordon Russell Limited. This trove includes several thousand design drawings, photographs, advertising, newsletters, manuscripts, correspondence and lecture notes dating back to the 1920s.

We are actively digitising the archive to make it more accessible. To date, we have scanned over 4,000 items, currently available only to the museum team. In the future, we aim to make this digital archive available more broadly.

To access the archive for personal inquiries and research, please email us at:

Include as much detail as possible, such as photographs, to help our expert team of former Gordon Russell Limited master craftsmen. They can access original designs and often share firsthand stories about individual pieces.

If you would like our archive team to identify your furniture or provide restoration advice, we welcome a donation, as all this work is done by volunteers. To make a donation, simply hit the ‘Donate Now’ button below. We very much appreciate your support

Provenance Certificates & Design Drawings

For those seeking proof of provenance, we offer detailed provenance certificates based on thorough research and accurate identification of your piece. This meticulous work requires expertise, and we suggest a donation of £50 to support our ongoing archive preservation efforts.

Original design drawings are quite large, roughly A0 size (841 mm x 1189 mm). If you wish to obtain a full-size copy, carefully wrapped and posted, please provide the specific design drawing number or sufficient information to help us identify the piece. A suggested donation of £100 covers the research, professional printing, packing and posting.
